Today I spontaneously got my trainers on and went for a run on the treadmill. It’s taken me a long time, but I have been feeling the need to run more recently, wanting that clearness of the mind and the aching body afterwards.

First run on the year didn’t disappoint and felt amazing!

I was going to start off small, 5-minute walk, run a bit and then back to a brisk walk, but as soon as I started, the adrenaline kicked in and I was in the zone!
5 minutes of running, turned into 10, which then was 15.
At this point I was starting to feel it in my legs, so pushed it back to a brisk walk for the last 5 minutes.

I used the music app Musi, and watched music videos as I ran, I’ll definitely try this again, as I feel it kept me more motivated and the time flew by. I’ll need to work on my play list too!

Final outcome:

• 5 min walk | speed 6
• 10 min run | speed 7.5
• 5 min run | speed 8
• 5 min walk | speed 6
• Stretches

I need to find time to keep this up, 3 times a week would be the ideal plan. I know if I make it a priority, then it will work out.

Additionally and totally related, we do a Secret Santa, gift exchange of Christmas presents at work. Last year, I received the book Spark by Eric Hagerman and Dr. John J. Ratey, which is about the physical and mental importance of running. This year I received a Runner’s Journal, to manually log my runs. I feel the universe is telling me to get back into running. I am so happy and glowing, that I was able to make this a priority today.

While stretching, the song Ghost by Justin Bieber came on (don’t judge my music choices). I love the lyrics to this song, and although the song is about missing someone who has passed, I felt like I’d be missing the old me recently, the fitter, more fun version, this has also motivated me more to get back into running! ❤️
